Black Secret Technology (2019)

What and who has been left out of the dominant narratives of invention? How do I recover, recuperate, retell forgotten and shared histories? Why do we lean on speculation when these particular histories don’t exist? Some of these impartial histories have been fragmented, truncated, stripped of some source, or lost over time because of the failure in oral traditions and the transcription of a narrative that belongs to underrepresented individuals based on their gender and/or race.

These drawings explore the opacity of the untold historical narratives of the inventor and their patents. By retracing the genealogy of the inventor’s idea through their patents the drawings inscribe their invention into existence.

My research is invested in how to recover these inventions and recuperate their history by retracing their histories through drawing as a way to retell their story. This method creates not only a personal collection but also an archive that asks the question of how do I unearth these materials and recupe their narrative?
